Everything you need to know about therapy with Daniel Talbot—answered honestly and without the corporate jargon.
Before your first session, I'll ask you to complete a short intake form. This helps me understand your situation ahead of time so we can make the most of our session together.
The first session is about getting to know each other. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you're hoping to get out of it, and whether we're a good fit. I'll ask questions to understand your situation, but you're in control—you share what feels comfortable. By the end, we'll have a clearer sense of what we'll work on together and what the next steps look like.
There's no expectation that you have everything figured out. The first session is exploratory, and it's okay if you're not sure exactly what you need yet.
Therapy isn't just for people in crisis. It's for anyone who wants to understand themselves better, manage stress or anxiety, navigate a difficult transition, or just talk through what's going on in their life with someone who's trained to help.
If you're asking yourself "Do I really need therapy?"—that's often a sign that it could be helpful. You don't need to be "broken" to benefit from support. Sometimes the hardest part is just giving yourself permission to reach out.
Yes. Everything you share in therapy is confidential and legally protected. I won't discuss your sessions with anyone—not your family, not your employer, not anyone—unless you give me explicit written consent.
The only exceptions are:
These exceptions exist to keep people safe, but in the vast majority of cases, what you say stays between us.
It depends. Some people find a few sessions helpful for working through a specific issue. Others benefit from ongoing support over several months. There's no one-size-fits-all answer.
We'll check in regularly about how therapy is going and adjust as needed. You're never locked in—therapy is collaborative, and you're always in control of how long you continue.
For context, many clients see noticeable progress within 6-10 sessions, but deeper work (like addressing long-standing patterns or complex issues) can take longer.
Yes—all sessions are conducted online via secure telehealth. This means you can access therapy from anywhere in Australia, as long as you have a stable internet connection and a private space.
Online therapy is just as effective as in-person sessions for most people, and it offers more flexibility and convenience. You can attend sessions from home, during a lunch break, or while traveling.
You can book directly through my Calendly booking system on the Contact page. Choose a time that works for you, fill in a few details, and you'll receive a confirmation email with session details and a link to the telehealth platform.
If you have questions before booking, feel free to send me an email—I'm happy to answer anything.
24+ hours' notice: Free cancellation or rescheduling—no charge.
Less than 24 hours' notice: Full session fee applies.
I understand that life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule, just let me know as soon as you can and we'll figure it out.
Fit matters. Therapy only works if you feel comfortable and trust the person you're working with. If after the first session (or any session) you feel like we're not the right match, that's completely okay.
I can provide referrals to other psychologists or therapists who might be a better fit. There's no judgment—finding the right therapist is more important than sticking with someone who doesn't feel right.
Absolutely. Most people feel nervous before their first session—it's vulnerable to talk about what you're going through with someone new. That hesitation is normal, and it's actually a sign that you're taking this seriously.
The first step is often the hardest. But once you're in the session, most people find that it's not as intimidating as they expected. You're in control of what you share, and we'll move at your pace.
If you're nervous, that's okay—just show up anyway. You've already done the hard part by considering therapy in the first place.
If you didn't find what you were looking for, feel free to reach out. I'm happy to answer any questions you have before booking.
